Scotland has a genuinely independent literary agenting scene, centered mainly in Edinburgh, which has a long publishing history of its own dating back centuries and remains one of the UK's most significant publishing centers outside London.

Glasgow also supports a smaller but active writing and agenting community, and Scottish agents overall tend to have a strong footing in literary fiction, crime writing, and poetry.
