United Kingdom

The United Kingdom has one of the most active literary agent markets outside the US, concentrated overwhelmingly in London, where agencies sit close to major publishers, international rights fairs, and film and TV production companies. A handful of agents work from other UK cities, but London remains the default base for anyone seriously representing authors to UK publishers.

UK agents represent everything from literary fiction and crime to children's and YA, and many maintain strong connections to international markets, particularly the US, through co-agents or in-house foreign rights teams. Most belong to the Association of Authors' Agents (AAA), and checking membership is a reasonable first filter when researching a prospective agent.
